Activities Afloat

The main classes of dinghy in the club are the Dart 18 catamaran with around 18 boats and the Kestrel with around 11 boats. There are also a large fleet of Topper dinghies used by the cadet section and a fleet of adult training boats owned by the Tay Sail Training SCIO. Since 2021 there has been a resurgence in the singlehanded Laser class with one or two other single handers now making an appearance. There has always been a broad range of other dinghies stored in the dinghy park, including Laser 4000's, Osprey, RS200's etc., The club organises a full fixture list of evening racing, trophy races and regattas. In recent years the development of social sailing has become the most significant growth area and this is now reflected in the weekly programme.

There are several members who keep their keelboat on the west coast or further afield. On the estuary members have tended to move to Tayport Harbour when berths became available, there are therefore fewer keelboats kept on the moorings off Grassy Beach. However, there remains a class of Squib day boats which have their own series of races and which are moored along with other smaller boats in the bay.
