What is Tay Sail Training? (TST)

TST was established as a separate charitable organisation (2003) and forms the umbrella for the clubs training programme. It provides community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities for sailing, with a strong focus on the involvement and development of young people.

Learn to sail

The TST training programme offers formal practical courses in sailing for adults and young people. Most sail training takes place in dinghies and cover beginner stage through to more advanced sailing, including racing. TST also serves a thriving Cadet Section (13-18 year olds), which is run under the RYA training schemes. 

Learn to use a powerboat

To support the activities on the water club members are encouraged to be part of the rescue cover and TST offers training to volunteers for powerboat and safety boat training. TST also offers a training structure for the rowing section, to encourage safe and enjoyable rowing. 

Qualified instructors

In addition to formal courses TST and RTYC provide many informal training sessions in which club members can get out on the water and build up experience in sailing and rowing. All courses are delivered by a team of enthusiastic and qualified instructors, largely on a voluntary basis. They are happy to invest their time to develop water sports and encourage the recreational use of the wonderful Tay estuary. 

Training fleet

TST has a fleet of training boats, including a range of dinghies suitable for young people and adults, a Squib keel boat and four rigid inflatable safety boats. TST develops coastal rowing by funding St Ayles Rowing skiffs, of which there are currently 3. 

Shore based training

During the winter months TST runs shore-based formal courses in Day Skipper, Yachtmaster, First Aid, short range radio and diesel engine maintenance. In addition, it organises informal sessions for cadets and adults in aspects of seamanship. 

Donations welcome

TST is a Scottish Registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).  It is a voluntary based organisation and requires funds to maintain its current activities. It continually seeks to expand its provision of sailing and other water sports to the wider community. All enquiries are welcome:
