Dart 18

DART 18 CLASS
TWO HULLS … TWICE THE FUN!!
The Dart 18 Catamaran is the fastest growing fleet in the RTYC, now with a strong presence of 20
boats in the dinghy park!
We are an extremely welcoming class, with experienced campaigners helping newcomers of a
range of abilities and ages to improve their skills. There is always a friendly face around the
dinghy park to provide advice on boat maintenance and tuning the rig … if ever in doubt, just
shout out!
Whilst the main focus is on racing, there are ample opportunities to enjoy social sailing. Very
popular Dart Winter training sessions have also been hosted on Sunday mornings, perhaps chilly,
but those taking part have beyond doubt come on leaps and bounds!
The Dart is an exciting boat to sail, certainly fast … indeed a bit of a blast in strong winds, the
adjective superb frequently used to sum up the experience! On the plus side, a Dart is
mechanically straightforward with very few ropes to distract your attention! The Dart can either be
campaigned by helm and crew with main and jib, or if youre like many of us with no friends,
single-handed with mainsail only … the choice is yours!
Pleasingly the strength of the RTYC Dart Fleet has been recognised nationally, we have been
privileged to host 4 TT weekends in recent years. The event during July past was a resounding
success with a remarkable fleet of 20 Darts competing, all Scottish based - a date clash with the
Worlds led to no visitors from the south this time round … this didnt however hinder the Jocks
having a ball!
The success of the weekend didnt go unnoticed! We have been selected by UKIDA to host a TT
event again in 2026, this in conjunction with the Dart 18 Scottish Championships. The date for
the diary's is the weekend of 1st/2nd August, and clear of other events, a really big entry can be
expected!
We welcome enquiries from both experienced sailors and novices who may be interested in
crewing on a Dart! You will soon be hooked (yes, literally … on a trapeze wire!) and it wont be
long before you are in the market to secure your own boat … a wise move, you wont regret it!
If you think you might be interested in Dart sailing, dont think twice … simply get in touch by
return with the Dart Class Captain, Grant Mitchell grantmitch66@icloud.com
