Dart 18
The Dart 18 catamaran class is the fastest growing class in the club, now with nearly 20 boats.
It is a very welcoming class, with sailors of a range of abilities helping each other to improve and, for example, also providing advice on boat maintenance. While the main focus is on racing, there are also opportunities for social sailing. See them in action here.
The Dart is an exciting boat to sail. It's fast and both helm and crew (it's a two-person boat) are kept busy trimming the sails and balancing the boat, especially in strong winds. But it's mechanically straightforward (no spinnaker) and manageable by sailors of varying ability.
The RTYC is prominent nationally in Dart racing, and we usually host the Dart 18 Scottish Nationals. We hosted them in June 2023. Our Dart sailors sometimes compete internationally too. The 2024 UKIDA TT3 will be at RTYC on 8th June so stay posted for updates.
We welcome enquiries from current Dart sailors who might wish to join the club or from anyone who might be interested in crewing on a Dart. Crewing on a Dart is a great experience in itself, and for some has led to buying their own boat and helming. If you think you might be interested in Dart sailing, please do get in touch with the DartCaptain, Nigel Seaton (nigel.seaton@btopenworld.com).
