Rowing Regatta 2023
Published 13:47 on 7 Jun 2023
The RTYC rowing section, Broughty Ferry Boating held their annual regatta here at the Club on Saturday 3rd June. Clubs involved were Broughty Ferry, Burghead, Catterline, Collieston, Cromarty, Dundee, Eastern, Elie St Monans, Forfar, Lossiemouth, North Berwick, St. Andrews and Wormit.
Rowing Captain Scott McCallum welcomed the teams to Grassy Beach this was followed by John Miller briefing the coxes on the course and Commodore Ralph Hopkins briefing the umpires before a full programme of racing commenced at 10 am.
A 2k course on the Tay was the venue for what turned out to be an excellent days racing, the clubs each with their gazebo space enjoyed a sun packed programme of eleven races.
It was great to have Dundee and Forfar join us for their first ever regatta with some of their rowers only having a few months experience, with a helping hand from BFB coxes the Dundee crew of Novice Women had an enthusiastic 2nd place silver medal.
With a lot of clubs transitioning from the pandemic the plan for BFB was to involve as many of our members as possible both old and new, with four rowers and a cox in each race this resulted in 39 rowers competing in 11 race categories.
What was so pleasing for BFB was that all 39 rowers received a medal, with BFB being placed in the first three of every race! Probably something thats never been achieved before at any of the many regattas throughout Scotland.
