RTYC Jubilee Family Fun Day

It was our Jubilee Family Fun Day on 26th July at RTYC, and the club delivered in style.
Rowers, sailors, family and friends were treated to a range of fun activities, on and off the water. It was a warm day by the river, the beach kitchen was open, and our pool of volunteer ladies served up hot food, tea, coffee and cake.
Show and row was running, introducing some new rowers to the joy of pulling an oar as part of a crew. The rib was out, pulling an inflatable raft filled with happy kids, gleefully holding on as they were towed through the water. On shore there were water pistols, held by determined players, propelling cups in a race along a string. Nearby, others tackled navigating an obstacle course while blindfolded, guided by directions from onlookers. The on shore water fun continued with a water slide, as kids took a run up, jumped onto an inflatable slide, and skidded along to the end, whats not to like? Our Fiona Shepherd skiff was on display, masquerading as a bathtub, complete with bubbles, a pink flamingo, ducks, and its own shower! Inside the bath tub, were hoards of tiny ducks, each with a number. Players had to fish them out with a net, easy right? er no, there was a blindfold!!! Certain numbers on captured duckies, won some of us chocolate treats, woohoo!
It was a really fun afternoon, and as well as the activities laid on by our fantastic group of volunteers, who set it all up, there was something else going on. We had buckets of water, water pistols, and kids, spontaneity, imagination and some devilish chuckling, meant that some games just happened, which was even more fun.
As they day came to a close, we launched the bathtub. The crew were decked out in shower caps, and armed with tubes of bubbles, which made for some hilarity. It was a short row, but our bubbles went sailing off in the wind, the perfect close to the Family Fun Day.
Thanks to everyone involved, whether volunteering, taking part, or just spectating and relaxing with a coffee. Fun days are what we make them, and this was a good one.
