SAILING A SQUIB

Squib sailing is great fun. You sail it like a big dinghy but with its ballasted keel it has the stability and some of the handling characteristics of a keelboat. Here is an opportunity for you to sail a Squib. Over the two days we will take you through the rigging/ derigging of the boat, the use of its controls, practise casting off/ picking up a mooring, use of the sails including the spinnaker plus lots of sailing particularly to improve your helming and crewing skills in tidal conditions and in whatever weather conditions we get. We have access to 3 Squibs which can take up to 3 people in each.

Private Squib owners are welcome to join in too. This is not a basic learn to sail course but is more aimed at those with some reasonable sailing/ boat handling ability. However, it might be that the 3 rd place in a boat could go to someone who has only basic experience and wishes to broaden that. The course will be delivered by volunteers with Squib experience who are keen to see this great class of boat continue to have a future at our club and on the Tay. There is no charge for this course but if you feel inclined at the end of the course to make a donation to Tay Sail Training SCIO then that would be much appreciated.

To make the most of each day and the high water times of around noon we will start at 0900. Depending upon conditions we may go for a longer voyage on the Sunday. Members only.
