RYA Seamanship course - cadets AI-SI program

14th - 15 April

The RYA Seamanship course is an ideal course for learning to sail two-man dinghies in a range of conditions around the Tay estuary. Some of the students will be using it to build on their skills prior to doing Assistant and Dinghy Instructor qualifications but it is ideal for any intermediate sailor that has some experience in the Hartleys.

Launching and recovering from a lee shore, reefing afloat, anchoring, coming alongside and practising recovering a man overboard are some aspects covered. Other less obviously useful skills like backwards and rudderless sailing also form part of it.

This Seamanship course is for cadets aiming to do their AI/DI qualification and will give them the required skills to pass the DI pre-assessment.

TST courses are £100 in 2026 with the money being used to pay RYA costs, petrol, and maintain the TST dinghies and RIB

However, given this course is being used for students to enable them to become instructors were able to use the Awards for All Lottery training grant to pay half of the costs, so it will only cost £50 for the full RYA course including certificate etc. .
