RYA Seamanship course - Sat 9:30-16:30: Sunday 9:00-16:00
The RYA Seamanship course is an ideal course for learning to sail two-man dinghies in a range of conditions around the Tay estuary. Some of the students will be using it to build on their skills prior to doing Assistant and Dinghy Instructor qualifications but it is ideal for any intermediate sailor that has some experience in the Hartleys.
It would also be ideal experience for any members willing to take out newer club members for social sailing on a Thursday night or My Club on a Saturday morning. Or even progressing to instructor qualifications themselves in due course. The course covers many aspects of sailing in a seamanship-like manner, in other words drama free!!
Launching and recovering from a lee shore, reefing afloat, anchoring, coming alongside and practising recovering a man overboard are some aspects covered. Other less obviously useful skills like backwards and rudderless sailing also form part of it.
Weather permitting we'd intend to plan a passage to Tentsmuir on Sunday morning using our new skills, going ashore for lunch with an easy sail back with the tide in the afternoon.
The course is a great stepping stone to doing a Day Cruising course later on and venturing further up the Tay.
