Race box training/discussion evening
David Kent - RYA Scotland - Race Officer/OOD evening in the club
RYA Scotland, to support the club, is providing David Kent to run an OOD evening in the club. He'll focus more on why a Race Officer does things rather than the nuts and bolts and so it should be relevant to anyone racing at the club or who go to other events and major championships, not just those thinking of stepping up to being the OOD for club racing.
He will also touch on when flags go up and down etc and it will be specific to how we run races at the Tay so it should be a really useful evening for lots of members.
He is perhaps best known for running a mark laying team at the London Olympics (and I think others as well) and hopefully he'll cover a little bit on mark laying. He did a brief talk to the youth sailors' parents a couple of years ago on mark laying and he was superb, I learned a huge amount in 30 minutes!! Should add he's also a very well kent race officer internationally as well.
RYA are paying his fees but the club needs to cover his travel costs and so there's a small charge to offset that but it will also cover cakes and coffee to fuel the mind on the night.
We'll try and set up shared resources and discussion group so that folk can then ask questions of each other going forward and hopefully all support each other with the ability to ask questions of the more seasoned OODs within the group. To that end can you please indicate if you're happy to have your email and phone number shared with other members of the group to allow that to happen?
