Mark laying practice evening
The club normally uses fixed marks for it's racing but we run a few events every year where we lay bigger moveable marks to give us the best courses for racing. Also hoping to give the Race Officer the option of laying a moveable wing mark to let us vary evening points courses a bit more.
This evening course with Neil and Richard will let you become familar with what marks the club uses, how they're rigged up, how we shorten or lengthen the lines to suit the depth of water we're laying marks in etc.
We also recently got some shiney new marks which are much easier to user than the old pillar marks the club has had up til now. MIx of tetrahedrons and tomato marks. Lots of advatages over the old BP marks, smaller and lighter with handles etc but most importantly only requiring a couple of 2kg weights to keep upright. The BP marks had 56lb weights!! It's going to exciting to see them in use for the first time.
Aim will be to get out the water after a brief onshore session and do some pratical mark laying, moving and lifting. So bring RIB kit and gloves.
