Jubilee - Ultimate Team Challenge for Sailors and Rowers
The 140/150 Ultimate Team Challenge on Sunday 7 September is to be a fun way of celebrating our Jubilee, with rowers and sailors of all ages and abilities competing together in various team events.
Here is an outline of the day so you have an idea what to expect.
All participants will be divided up into teams and there will be three components: a rowing challenge, a sailing challenge and a combined challenge.
- 1) Rowers will compete first in 3 races involving a 500 metre sprint, a turn and a 500 metre sprint back to the line.
- 2) Next, the sailors will compete as teams in a pursuit race, with staggered starts: slower boats setting off first followed by the faster boats according to handicap. They will sail a course and should finish all about the same time.
- 3) In the team relay challenge, the overall winners of the first two challenges will set off first, passing a baton from rowing boat to RIB to sailing boat and so on, pursued by the other teams…. hopefully the finish will be close.
Points will be awarded to the teams based upon their placings in the rowing and sailing elements. These points will then provide the start times for the final team relay challenge.
This is an event for everyone so it doesnt matter if you havent taken part in a competition before. Clearly weather will play an important role but the most significant role will be played by YOU. This will only work well if we have the numbers so please take part!
For the sailing element members should use their own boats with TST training boats available for others. In the relay final only TST training boats will be used. Shore supporters are very welcome too for cheering on the teams, and keeping Diane and her team busy in providing the usual selection of hot rolls, cakes and beverages.
We ask that all competitors register by 1700hrs on Friday 5 September. Rowers should register via their normal booking sheet, while sailors and volunteers register as usual via the website. The first competition starts at 11:00 so we assemble by 10:00. Further instructions may be published before the day.
Lets make this a truly memorable event: put it in your diary if you havent already, and enter!
