Club Winter Talk in Main Saloon - Gordon Shepherd
The first of our illustrated winter evening talks for 2024/25 will take place in Glenogil House on Thursday 24th October at 7.30pm. It will mainly cover the maritime history of Vancouver, Vancouver Island & British Columbia. Club member Gordon Shepherd visited family in Vancouver this year and since returning home he has been digging into the fascinating background of that region.
The story goes back to the age of exploration in sailing ships and includes legends such as Francis Drake and Capt Cook, and the search for the North-West passage. It stretches from east coast of North America all the way across Canada to the Pacific coast and includes the fur trade and the search for gold. Gordon's whistle-stop tour of that history covers a period of more than 500 years from1492 up to the present day and involves Spain, France, Britain, USA and Russia. It should be an interesting evening.
All members and friends welcome.
